What is a gymnastics cheese mat used for?
A cheese mat is a helpful tool for athletes practicing cheerleading, dance, and gymnastics to master new skills before taking them to a level surface. Sometimes referred to as a wedge or incline mat, these large mats have a natural incline that makes mastering skills such as a handspring or walkover much easier.
What size cheese mat do I need?
What size should you buy? Your Folding Incline Mat should be as long as your athlete is tall when they have their arms by their ears: Small (24-inches x 48-inches x 14-inches), Medium (30-inches x 68-inches x 16-inches), Large (60-inches x 84-inches x 16-inches).
What do you do with gymnastics wedges?
- Forward rolls – starting at the top of the mat, roll to the bottom.
- Dive rolls – work up to diving rolls by starting the roll on the ground in front of the mat.
- Back rolls – start these sitting on the top of the cheese, facing away.
